It's open to families who have children with Special Education needs.

(New Orleans – October 27, 2023) – NOLA Public Schools (NOLA-PS) is delighted to announce its collaboration with Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) and Families Helping Families of NOLA (FHF NOLA) in organizing a Special Education Resource Fair. Details are as follows:

Date: Sat., Oct. 28

Time: 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Location: NOLA East Opportunity Center, 12000 Hayne Blvd, NOLA 70128

The event is designed to empower families, scholars, and community members by showcasing the diverse array of resources available throughout the city for individuals with disabilities. We welcome the public to join us, and in the spirit of the season, feel free to come dressed in Halloween attire.

The Special Education Resource Fair will feature participation from more than 20 local organizations and community groups. A new addition this year is a series of informational sessions tailored to address pertinent topics for families. These sessions will cover a wide range of subjects, including understanding developmental milestones, parents' rights, identifying their child's specific needs, and navigating the process of accessing appropriate support, among other valuable insights. Distinguished presenters for the resource fair include the Loyola Law Clinic, Exceptional Lives, Opportunity Now, the Louisiana DeafBlind Project, and NOLA-PS' Exceptional Children's Services (ECS Team).

Families and parents attending the resource fair can expect to gain invaluable information, equipping them with a deeper understanding of the various advocacy organizations, support programs, and enrichment opportunities available to meet the unique needs of their scholars. Other participating organizations include: the Louisiana Children's Museum (LCM), Families Helping Families of Greater New Orleans (FHF NOLA), Delgado Community College, and ThriveKids.

We encourage families and their scholars, along with community members to join NOLA-PS, in partnership with YEP and FHF NOLA, for this informational event. In addition to the resource fair, we invite our community to check out the 2023 Special Education Resource Guide to access additional information about the variety of resources that exist in the city.

Free parking and food and drinks will be available to those who attend the fair.
