NOLA-PS Kicks Off Wellness Program for Its Employees

(New Orleans – October 17, 2022) —NOLA Public Schools (NOLA-PS) has partnered with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana (BCBSLA) and other local health providers to start a wellness program for its employees.

The program kicked-off this morning and is designed to give employees access to a myriad of health tools to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Via a BCBSLA wellness portal, NOLA-PS staff can track exercise, diet, personal health information, as well as access information on recipes, food delivery services, exercises, health tips webinars, smoking cessation, COVID-19, financial health, and discounts to health items such as Fitbits, hearing aids, etc.

The portal also provides access to nurses, personal trainers, nutritionists, monthly newsletters, and a health library to help guide and answer questions. As an incentive to participate in the program, staff members are given credit for participating and logging information in the portal and can choose to be entered into a drawing to win a grand prize.

NOLA-PS is also collaborating with local health partners, such as Walgreens to provide flu shots and Ochsner to offer biometric screenings to its staff, onsite at central office, all in an effort to reduce our employees' health risk, improve their overall health, and help lower healthcare costs.

The NOLA-PS' CAREs initiative, in addition to connecting stakeholders with mental health support in the greater New Orleans area, will also focus on providing health and wellbeing initiatives for our school community by developing a federation of support services that create opportunities for resource sharing for schools, families, and NOLA-PS staff.
