Statement from the Orleans Parish School Board

(New Orleans – February 3, 2026) — Tonight, after careful consideration and discussion, the Orleans Parish School Board (OPSB) voted to reject the City's latest settlement proposal in its long-standing case.

Orleans Parish School Board v. The City of New Orleans, et al. centers on ensuring full allocation of dedicated education funding to schools rather than partial diversion for city administrative purposes, amid broader fiscal pressures on the district.

The board cannot support a proposal that places too large a burden on our schools and, most importantly, on our students. The resources owed to NOLA Public Schools (NOLA-PS) are essential for providing a high-quality education, safe learning environments, and critical support services that help every child succeed.

We believe a fairer, more balanced solution exists; one that fully recognizes the financial needs of our district while respecting the City's constraints. We remain committed to respectful dialogue and look forward to continuing to work collaboratively with Mayor Helena Moreno, the City Council, and all stakeholders to reach an agreement that prioritizes our students and ends this dispute in a way that benefits the entire New Orleans community.

Our focus stays firmly on the children of New Orleans. We will keep advocating strongly for the funding they deserve and are hopeful that productive negotiations will lead us to a resolution soon.

The Board appreciates the community's continued support and understanding as we work toward the best possible outcome for our schools and families.
