NOLA-PS Begins its November Vaccination Drives for Students Ages 5-11

This new immunization opportunity will help enhance the health & safety of our school community.

(New Orleans – November 12, 2021) – Following the FDA's emergency use authorization (EUA) of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5-11, NOLA Public Schools (NOLA-PS) is excited to provide a series of Vaccination Events for students ages 5 to 11.

Starting this Saturday, Nov. 13 at 10AM, the District will host its first vaccination event for NOLA-PS families designed to help protect our youngest learners from the coronavirus. Future events are planned for every Saturday in November and during Thanksgiving Week in partnership with our school communities. The schedule and registration information can be found below or at nolapublicschools.com/vaccinations.

Per the CDC, the COVID-19 vaccine is effective and can reduce the risk of getting and spreading the virus. The vaccine also protects children and adults from getting seriously ill even if they do get COVID-19.

The shot is the best tool we have against COVID-19. It can keep our children healthy, safe, and in school, where they can continue to learn, develop, and enjoy their friends.

"Medical experts say getting children ages 5 years and older vaccinated can help protect them from serious short- and long-term complications, and it can protect families and communities, including friends and family who are not eligible for the shot or those who are vulnerable to the virus," said NOLA-PS Superintendent Dr. Henderson Lewis, Jr. "All reasons why we want to provide easy access to the vaccine for our students and their families through our NOLA-PS Vaccination Events. We urge everyone to get vaccinated."

"Vaccinated school children do not have to quarantine when they come in close contact with someone at school who has COVID-19," said NOLA-PS Chief Operations Officer Tiffany Delcour. "If your child is vaccinated, they won't have to miss important classroom time, and their families won't have to take off work to watch them at home."

Below is a list of this month's NOLA-PS Vaccination Events -- some of which will make vaccines available to students of all ages. The available vaccines will be administered on a first-come, first-served basis and families are encouraged to register via the registration links on our website: nolapublicschools.com/vaccinations

Each month, NOLA-PS will update its vaccination website and release the vaccination drives for each month, along with registration links. In addition, the website also provides access to community resources where families can get vaccinated.

NOLA Public Schools is excited the FDA and CDC have greenlighted COVID-19 vaccines for all students, Kindergarten through High School, and NOLA-PS is proud to be doing its part to connect families to these lifesaving measures.
