NOLA Public Schools Celebrates Black History Month with Inspiring Events


(New Orleans – February 8, 2024) — NOLA Public Schools proudly commemorates Black History Month with a series of engaging events featuring talented scholars from Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary and The Delores Taylor Arthur School for Young Men.


  1. Black History Month Quiz Bowl at Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary
    • Date: Thursday, February 8, 10 am
    • Location: Bethune Elementary, 2401 Humanity St., NOLA 70122


2. Black History Month Debate at The Delores Taylor Arthur School for Young Men

      • Date: Monday, February 26, 10 am
      • Location: Loyola University - 6363 St. Charles Avenue, NOLA 70118
      • Topic: "Should race-centered topics be taught in U.S. K-12 public schools?"


3. Black History Month Celebration Event

      • Date: February 29, 6 pm
      • Location: Ashe Cultural Arts Center Powerhouse Theater, 1731 Baronne St., NOLA 70113
      • Highlights: Sup Dr. Avis Williams will present her Equity in Action Scholarship Awards.
        • This $1000 award aims to recognize and support a deserving scholar in pursuit of their college and/or career plans upon graduating from a NOLA-PS high school. To be considered, interested high school seniors must submit their applications by Friday, February 9, 2024. The application form can be accessed online here.


This final event is open to the public, and registration is available via this link. NOLA-PS invites you to join us in honoring Black history and celebrating the remarkable achievements of our scholars.
