A Message from Superintendent Dr. Avis Williams:

"I am honored to serve as the first, permanent female superintendent of NOLA-Public Schools. This webpage is your destination for all things related to my first 100 days. It includes my 100 Days Plan, which details my goals and actions in the coming months, plus upcoming community engagement opportunities. As your superintendent, my goal is to set a solid foundation upon which we build a stronger future for our children and our community. Please take a moment to read my 100-Days plan and share your feedback. I look forward to hearing from you along the way as this plan evolves as needed. With a commitment to Equity, Excellence, and Joy, I look forward to meeting you and working together to ensure every child in our city thrives."

Goals

  • Conduct school visits to every NOLA-PS school within the first 100 days.
  • Develop trusting, productive, and collaborative relationships with the Orleans Parish School Board, school leaders, families, district staff, and community stakeholders.
  • Engage NOLA-PS families and the community by hosting 20 ABC (Dr. Avis' Beignets and Conversations) Tours and 10 Solution Circles allowing for two-way communication and feedback.
  • Establish NOLA CAREs. CAREs is our Community Access to Resources and Equity which will prioritize wellness, mental health, self-care, and trauma-informed practices.
  • Conduct a deep data dive to determine achievement and opportunity gaps that disproportionately impact children of color. Further, we will seek to determine the root causes.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to meaningfully address the attendance and truancy rates of NOLA-PS students, by creating a plan to improve district-wide attendance rates with measurable goals and reporting on the success of the plan to the Board.
  • Develop a process for Charter Extension and Renewal that accommodates for the academic impacts of COVID-19 while expanding the definition of school quality. I will also develop an accountability formula specific to NOLA-PS that emphasizes academic growth, learning environment, social and emotional learning, and culture and climate.
  • Develop a policy for facilities dispensation that provides for community benefit use. I will also develop and implement a plan to support a millage renewal that maintains and/or expands the funding available for the preservation of NOLA-PS school facilities.
  • Present an annual budget to the Board and community in a timely manner as prescribed by law and policy. Further, I will develop a roadmap inclusive of all processes and procedures necessary to ensure the transparency, accuracy, and timeliness of future audits.
