NOLA-PS’ Teacher Honored by LDOE as the 2022 Teacher of the Year

(New Orleans – May 26, 2021) —NOLA Public Schools (NOLA-PS) is proud to announce Angela Comeaux-Goodly has been chosen as the 2022 Teacher of the Year by the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE).

Goodly is a fourth grade homeroom teacher at Edward Hynes Charter School in New Orleans, Louisiana. She currently teaches reading, English language arts, mathematics, and science, both in-person and virtually due to the current COVID-19 pandemic.

"Congratulations, Mrs. Goodly! We are so proud of you, your excellent teaching skills, and the difference you make in the lives of your students each and every day," said NOLA-PS Superintendent Dr. Henderson Lewis, Jr. "You, along with all of our amazing teachers, have shown a lot of resilience over the past year. I salute you for taking it in stride and working hard to make sure our virtual and in-person students received a quality education during this pandemic."

Goodly's main focus is empowering students to use their intellect to make the world a better place. She facilitates weekly class meetings where her students engage in topics about goal-setting, character building, social emotional learning, cultural diversity, inclusion, and equity.

She is also an active member of the school's leadership team and facilitates weekly professional learning communities with her grade-level colleagues.

Goodly's desire to teach was cultivated by her mother, a counselor and Director of Financial Aid at Southern University. She instilled in her the importance of faith, education, and service. Goodly and her two sons founded the Josephine Comeaux Belisle (JCB) Foundation in honor of her mother's commitment to serving the community.

The JCB Foundation empowers children to use the power of the pen to change the world around them through creative writing and visual arts. Goodly is a lifelong New Orleanian and proud graduate of Orleans Parish public schools. She attended Southern University at New Orleans where she received a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.
