Community meetings explaining the process to be held next week.

(New Orleans – September 28, 2023) —NOLA Public Schools (NOLA-PS) is dedicated to ensuring the highest standards of education and accountability in all charter schools under its purview. In this pursuit of excellence, the organization is pleased to increase clarity for families and community members on the renewal and extension processes for the 2023-2024 academic year.

To offer comprehensive insights into these measures, NOLA-PS has arranged a series of community meetings. We encourage anyone who is interested in gaining a deeper understanding to attend one of the following informative sessions:

Tues., Oct. 3 - 6:00 PM - L.B. Landry High School (1200 L B Landry Ave, NOLA)

Thurs., Oct. 5 - 6:00 PM - New Orleans Charter Science & Math High School (2011 Bienville, NOLA)

The Renewal Process

The renewal process is a standard evaluation that occurs during the final year of a charter school's contract to determine if the school will receive another contract for future operations. The assessment takes into account a school's School Performance Renewal Index (SPRI) and its growth relative to open admission schools within the city.

For most schools, the SPRI is calculated as the average of their last two School Performance Scores (SPS scores). In the case of schools in their first contract, the SPRI is determined by the better of either their most recent SPS score or the average of their two most recent SPS scores. Additionally, financial stability and organizational performance play pivotal roles in the renewal process.
