(New Orleans – October 27, 2020) – The NOLA Public Schools (NOLA-PS) family is deeply saddened by the passing of visionary educator, Harold Clay.

Mr. Clay, a lifelong educator and proud father, worked tirelessly to create a student centered culture within every school he served. He was a stabilizing force and served as school leader of three historically acclaimed high schools in New Orleans.

“I knew Mr. Clay personally as an educator, a brother in the fraternal sense, and above all, as a father,” said Board President, Ethan Ashley. “This is a significant loss to our community that is felt by many both near and far. He was filled with energy, purpose, and was always focused on moving the ball for our students academically, mentally and emotionally. He took pride in his work as an educator and always let the world know that his love for his own children fueled his passion for all of the students he served.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Clay’s family, his students, colleagues, and everyone in our school community that his work has impacted.

(NEW ORLEANS – November 1, 2020) – NOLA Public Schools (NOLA-PS) announced the cancellation of all distance learning and in-person classes for Monday, November 2, due to ongoing power outages across New Orleans, loss of food due to lack of refrigeration, as well as unstable internet and phone service. This decision includes the cancellation of food services for families on Monday as well.

Tomorrow’s closure will give our schools time to work on resolving the ongoing service disruptions from Hurricane Zeta and provide families more time to have power and phone/internet services restored.

Superintendent Dr. Henderson Lewis, Jr. and his team are working with Entergy and Cox Communications to determine how soon these necessary services can be returned to all our schools.

The NOLA-PS team will consider the progress of Entergy and Cox to restore power and the needs of our school community to guide the appropriate timeline for a concerted return to in-person and distance learning for students at all grade levels. Schools and families can expect an update Monday, Nov. 2, regarding the plan for classes this coming week.

NOLA-PS will update all post-storm related announcements on its social media as well.
